David Miliband has been cut to succeed Alan Johnson as Ed Miliband's Shadow Chancellor following speculation that there is a longer term plan for him to return to front-line politics
Following speculation from political punters that David Miliband will return when the next Shadow Cabinet elections take place, William Hill (£25 free bet) have cut his odds of succeeding new Shadow Chancellor Alan Johnson to 20/1 (from 25/1).
Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe said: "The theory is that Miliband senior will be parachuted in to the job when he has been persuaded to return to front-line politics.
"But we remain to be convinced."
With Alan Johnson, Ed Balls and Yvette Cooper all given high profile jobs in Ed Miliband's Shadow Cabinet this week, Hill's are offering odds on which of the three will be the first to depart from his or her role, with Alan Johnson the 11/8 favourite.
Sharpe add: "Speculation has already begun on which of these three is likely to go first, and we believe that Mr Johnson could prove the most vulnerable."
