Peter Manley was the biggest name to bow out of the UK Open on the opening night on Thursday night, losing 6-3 to St Helens teenager Michael Smith.

Former world championship finalist Kirk Shepherd fought hard to beat Adrian Gray as a second possible upset looked on the cards at one point.

Tonight sees Taylor out to defend his title following his superb finish in the Premier League final where his brilliant double nine-darter saw him take the title against James Wade, becoming the first player in history to hit two nine-darters in one match.

Taylor has a good record at the Reebok, where is already has four nine-darters to his name.

Ahead of the start of play, Taylor said: "I want to keep the UK Open title. I can hear my dad saying 'right, you've done that now, shut up and get on with the next one now'. There's no bragging, he used to say that you shouldn't talk about yourself because people will talk about you."

Unsurprisingly, Taylor is the odds-on favourite to win, currently available at a best price 8/15 with Blue Square (use bonus code MAXIMUMBONUS to claim £66 in free bets), with Simon Whitlock next in the betting at 12/1 (bet365) and James Wade 14/1 (Blue Square).
