Background

No fancy strapline from these guys, who quite simply offer “Poker, Odds, Casino”. NordicBet’s official address is in Douglas, Isle of Man although they are licensed by the Lotteries and Gaming Authority of Malta.

Don’t let this mislead you though; this is a company which are all about targeting the Scandinavian and Nordic territories, with the site available in Swedish, Danish, Finnish and Norwegian as well as English.

It’s hard to glean much more information about them, other than NordicBet is the trading name of Norinvest Ltd, companies wholly owned by Nordic Gaming Group Ltd in Malta. Their poker room is on the Microgaming network, while their casino software is courtesy of Net Entertainment.

Odds and Markets

As you might expect with a bookmaker catering for Danes and Swedes, the odds are very tight, with customers from that region demanding low margins.

By my reckoning, NordicBet bet the Champions League at around 105%, regularly taking a position on one of the favourites which reflects that they have some decent traders on board. The same applies to tennis, basketball and ice hockey, while there is a strong service for bandy and trotting which are traditionally associated with Scandinavian and Nordic regions.

However, NordicBet do spread themselves a bit thin with their sports coverage. Football is clearly their biggest driver and appears to account for over 50% of sports betting business. Aside from this and the sports mentioned above, there’s not a lot else, with golf and winter sports getting some token markets. They do have a tremendous offering for the top soccer games though, with anything between 22 and 60 pre-match propositions for the big Champions League matches.

Website

There’s a nice flash slideshow to greet us upon visiting NordicBet. Most of the slides are pushing casino and poker, while the same applies to the pods that comprise the right-hand side of the page. The various products are listed in a top horizontal menu and the two that concern sports betting are “Odds” and “LiveBet”. The former section offers up a page crammed with sports and markets, which is an ‘in your face’ approach which is both refreshing and disconcerting in equal measures. NordicBet would probably benefit from some collapsible menus on this front!

Clicking on an event type reveals more structure, with a list of Champions League football matches set out in a coupon format. You can either select a match and view all the markets or take the alternative option of viewing the same market for a number of different games (note – markets with several betting options will take time to load). The Live Bet section is very interesting, with the list of upcoming events neatly listed in a left-hand margin and the latest event having several In-Play markets to select from at any one time.
